San Bruno took advantage of three errors and held on to beat Hilo 3-2 in the PONY Baseball Colt West Zone tournament on Monday in San Jose, Calif.

The Big Islanders (1-2) were eliminated from the eight-team tournament involving players ages 15-16.

“The boys played hard but we just couldn’t come up with the clutch hits when we needed them,” Hilo head coach Eric Kurosawa said. “We had some good opportunities, including the second inning when we had runners at second and third and couldn’t score.”

San Bruno (2-1) scored a run in the bottom of the first inning and plated two in the sixth inning to take a 3-0 lead. Hilo answered with two runs in the top of the seventh inning before the San Bruno pitcher was able to get the final out.

Brandon Lee started for the Big Islanders and pitched four innings. Makoa Andres took over in the fifth and finished.

Keegan Miura led Hilo with two hits, a pair of doubles, while Andres and Taylor Mondina each added a double.

“The boys gave it their best shot and fell a little short,” Kurosawa said. “But we had a lot of support all season and we want to thank everybody for the support.”
